2) The tone shifts to somewhat sarcastic and negative but still relieved. Cleanly and free suggest that this was an easy breakup and perhaps the author was not expecting that.
3) The repetition is to get the point across and reflect the actual breakup itself. Perhaps the author's lover had a hard time understanding it was over and the speaker had to reiterate their point. Again it adds to the speaker's point, it is over and the former lover must understand and accept that.
4) As the person being addressed I would be offended. Was the love shared so horrible that we need to completely forget it ever happened?
5) The last six lines make the breakup seem less harsh. I like the comparison of love as a dying person. It is very realistic that sometimes love simply and slowly dies out.
6) "You" is the ex lover. The evidence of this is seen in, "let us kiss and part", "cancel all our vows" and "when we meet at any time again." Those lines show that the speaker is physically and emotionally leaving someone.
7) That information skews who I thought was the speaker. I assumed that Michael Drayton was the speaker. But if Anne married someone else it is presumable that she was the one to break off their love or maybe they never had a relationship he was just in love with her. So I now feel that Anne is the speak and Michael Drayton is simply retelling his tragic story.
1) The first two paragraphs remind me of the cabins we stay in for our family vacations. The second paragraph reminds me of my dog who like the one in the story is a big baby. I have been in a similar situation and I don't mind to much, but I do wish my dog was a little more protective. I found that line kind of humorous and nostalgic.
2) Paragraphs 3-6 do alter the mood of the first two paragraphs. The section makes the story take a kind of creepy turn.
3) At first I thought that she was scared and her hands came up to her chest. But after rereading the sentence she could have been tanning topless on the hammock and covered her breasts because she thought someone was on her property.
4) Paragraphs 12-16 determine that she is fond of bears. They hold a great deal of nostalgia for her.
5) The construction of the porch and movement of the sofa allowed her to use those noises as an excuse instead of hearing the bear. The bear's smell gives me a gross and annoyed feeling of the bear. It is already hanging around her cabin and now it smells bad. I thought making the bear a him was interesting because instead of being annoyed by a man like most women she has a bear.
6) Each one of the traditions or stories end with the bear dead or a person dead. So you feel her heightened sense of attention to the dangers of the bear. She even goes to town and buys a rifle to protect herself with.
7) The summer days are marked with an X because the cabin is her summer home, the rest of the year is clear because she is only there during the summer. It has nothing to do with the bear.
8) At first I was scared for her, that the bear was entering her home and that perhaps the stories of the bears before was foreshadowing her death via bear. But then it was sad that it took so long to kill the bear and that he suffered so much.
9)I found the final sentence surprising. I thought that this woman had buried the bear because she felt bad about slowly and painfully killing him not for gain. Plus it is a gruesome image of digging up a bear you killed to take the claws off it's decaying body.

I liked your answer to why she covered her breasts. I was at a loss of words for that one but your answer makes sense.
