the celebrant

The Celebrant is a great novel for true baseball fans.  The only book ever published by Eric Rolfe Greenberg, it is a true classic.  The novel goes into a jewish immigrant, Jack Kapp, and his job as a jeweler.  the novel also goes into Kapp's obsession of New York pitcher Christy Mathewson.  after seeing the amazing no hitter thrown by Mathewson on July 15, 1901, Kapp decides to make a ring in celebration of this game.  the ring eventually becomes a championship ring for the team and is known as a "celebrant" of Mathewson's accomplishments.  The novel shows how Kapp lives out his dream of being a baseball player who never made it.  As much as the book explores the dark times that were going on in baseball during the early 1900's.  Kapp's obsession of Mathewson and other geat players leads Kapp to discover the corruption in baseball due to betting.  Also with the Kapp family making rings for the perennial National League champions, the fortunes of Mathewson and the jewelry business climb together. But tragedy soon intervenes. Mathewson develops health problems related to his exposure to gas in World War I, while a Kapp brother, a gambler, becomes involved in the Black Sox scandal.

One thing I noticed is that you used your opinion. "The Celebrant is a great novel for true baseball fans." and "... it is a true classic." My suggestion would be to just skip it and just start with "The only book book ever published by Eric Rolfe Greenberg..." and then start somehting with that.

I felt that some things were repeated. It could have been smoother when going into the next sentence. It seemed like it was telling me about the story then it would say and this or also this.

This book seems really interesting which is why I would suggest you involve your readers more by going into more detail about the book. Another thing that will help you is to create some sort of thesis as this will give you a focus to your summary and will help the overall summary come together as one instead of chopped up parts. Other than that you did a good job of organizing the events so that they are in a chronological order. I think that is a good idea, but you can also go out of chronological order if you want to. Good luck!

I noticed your opinion was thrown into the summary by saying "The Celebrant is a great novel...". Rather than reviewing what was going on, maybe go into some depth about the plot and what is going on in the first half of the book.

I also felt this was not really a plot summary. this summary was absed on more how you take the book rather then what happens in the book. I also think that you dont really elaborate much on what happened in the first part of the book.
